Common questions

How does the feed get personalized? Arca ranks each story using recency plus on-device source and keyword signals from what you read, like, and dislike. The Top Pick reflects that same local ranking, and your reading profile never leaves your device.

Can I add my own RSS feeds? Yes. On Android, you can add up to 32 supported, public, credential-free HTTPS RSS feeds. On Apple devices, add compatible custom RSS feed URLs from Sources. Added feeds appear in your feed and search like built-in sources.

How do I delete my account or data? Arca doesn't require an account on Android. Use Profile → Delete local app data to remove saved articles, reading history, preferences, cached content, podcast state, and onboarding choices from that Android device. Android cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for Arca, so uninstalling also removes the app's local data. On Apple devices, use Profile → Delete Account & Data to erase local state, sign out, and clear Arca's iCloud playback and widget entries.

Does deleting my data cancel Arca+? No. Cancel an Apple subscription in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancel an Android subscription in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Arca cannot cancel a store subscription for you, and deleting data or uninstalling does not stop renewal.

What about sign-in and the Daily Briefing email? The current Android app has no sign-in flow. On Apple devices, revoke Sign in with Apple or Google authorization from the corresponding account settings if needed. On either platform, use the unsubscribe link in a confirmed Daily Briefing email; deleting app data does not unsubscribe that address.

Why does an article ask me to subscribe? Some publishers put their articles behind a paywall. For approved public pages, Arca can extract readable article content into its native reader and cache that content on your device, but it does not bypass publisher access controls. If a source requires a subscription, you'll need an account with that publisher to read the full piece.

Can I read saved articles offline? A saved article with complete RSS text remains readable offline. Text extracted from a public publisher page remains available only while it is still in Arca's bounded cache; bookmarking does not pin that extracted copy. Subscriber-only and unsupported pages still use the publisher link and require a connection.

Can I listen to podcasts offline? Arca includes 22 curated shows—21 technology podcasts plus NPR News Now. Arca+ subscribers can download the audio file supplied in a podcast's RSS feed. On Android, find downloaded episodes under Listen → Downloads or Saved → Audio. On Apple devices, use Profile → Downloads.

What does Enhanced Voice send? Only after you request article narration, Arca sends the selected article URL, extracted article text, and store-issued subscription proof to Arca's server. The server verifies access and creates the requested audio. See the privacy policy for provider, cache, and retention details.
